Wolves in talks with Celta Vigo over deal for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen

Wolves are in talks with Celta Vigo over a £25million deal to sign Norway striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The 24-year-old, who scored 13 goals in 37 La Liga appearances last season, is keen on the move and Wolves are optimistic about concluding a deal with the Spanish club.

They hope signing the 6ft 4in forward would finally end their search for a senior No.9 that has been ongoing since Molineux favourite Raul Jimenez lost form following his fractured skull in November 2020.

Fabio Silva has failed to make a mark on the Premier League and is set to leave this summer if Wolves receive a reasonable offer while Sasa Kalajdzic has suffered two serious knee injuries since joining almost two years ago and will not be available until well into next season.

Strand Larsen, who can also play as a wide forward, started his career in his native Norway with Sarpsborg, making his senior debut at 16 and scoring six goals in 48 appearances over four seasons.

He joined Dutch side Groningen in 2020 and netted 24 times in 66 appearances in the Eredivisie.

In his first season at Celta he managed just four goals in 20 starts but he found his feet last season, starting 36 times and adding three assists to his 13 goals.

The proposed transfer fee is a show of Wolves’ confidence in Strand Larsen as they are set to break with owners Fosun’s new policy of targeting signings in the £8m-£15m bracket.

Negotiations over a deal worth around €30m ($32m) reflects the general transfer premium on strikers but also Wolves’ determination to land a player near the top of their summer target list.

They have already signed winger Rodrigo Gomes from Braga for £12.7m.
