Crystal Palace have confirmed midfielder Will Hughes has signed a new contract at the club through to 2027.
Hughes’ previous deal was set to expire this summer, though the club held an option to extend the deal by a year. The 29-year-old has now committed his future to the club after establishing himself as a regular under Oliver Glasner.
The Athletic reported in December that Hughes was content at Palace and did not want to move on, and in February that he was in talks over a new deal.
“I’m extremely happy to sign a new contract,” said Hughes. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here, so I’m delighted to extend it by a couple of years in what’s a really good moment as an individual and as a team collectively.”
“In addition to being an important player in our squad, Will exemplifies the hard work, humility — and humour — of our football club,” added club chairman Steve Parish.
“He is a leader both on and off the pitch — a characteristic appreciated by both his teammates and supporters alike — and I am delighted to see him extend his time in red and blue.”
After four years at Watford, Hughes joined Palace in August 2021 on a three-year deal in a transfer worth in the region of £6million ($7.94m at current rates).
He found game time harder to come by under Roy Hodgson and Patrick Vieira but has featured heavily since Glasner’s arrival in February 2024, especially after injuries to Adam Wharton and Cheick Doucoure.
Hughes has made 115 appearances for Palace, scoring twice. He has played in 32 games this campaign, starting 24.
With seven games remaining, Palace are 12th in the table on 43 points as they chase their Premier League record points tally of 49 and their highest ever league position of 10th.
Glasner’s side return to league action on Wednesday when they visit Newcastle United.
