Stefan Ortega signs Manchester City contract extension

Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has signed a new contract extension.

The 31-year-old is now set to remain at the Etihad Stadium club until the summer of 2026.

He said: “I am delighted to be staying at Manchester City for longer.

“This is a football club that provides players with everything we need to be our best. Every single day I feel motivated and challenged, and I have improved as a goalkeeper since coming here two years ago.

“My family are really settled here in England, I love everything about it here. Signing this deal means I can now focus 100 per cent on next season and beyond.”

Ortega has been City’s No 2 goalkeeper since signing for Pep Guardiola’s side on a free transfer in 2022.

The German made 20 appearances for City in 2023-24 as he helped guide his side to their fourth Premier League title in a row.

Ortega made a series of saves in City’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in May, including one from point-blank range to deny Son Heung-min, after coming on as a substitute to replace the injured Ederson.

He joined City on an initial three-year deal and has since made 34 appearances across all competitions.

City have also recently tied one of their other goalkeepers down to a new deal after third-choice shot-stopper Scott Carson signed a one-year contract extension in May.

The 38-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire this summer but he will now remain at the club until June 2025.

The veteran goalkeeper initially joined City on loan in 2019 before making the move permanent in 2021.
