Southampton’s Kamari Doyle in talks to join Brighton on loan

Highly-rated Southampton youngster Kamari Doyle is in talks to join Brighton.

The 18-year-old’s contract at Southampton expires at the end of the season and hopes of breaking into Russell Martin’s first team have been disrupted through injury. A deal with Brighton is not yet agreed but discussions over a fee remain ongoing, given Doyle joined Southampton aged seven.

The teenager is undergoing a medical ahead of the proposed move.

Doyle had been keen for opportunities at Southampton this season having made his Premier League debut in May 2022, which delayed an agreement over a contract extension, but had found game-time difficult to come by before his injury, making just a single appearance in the Carabao Cup.

Last summer, Doyle held discussions with then-academy director Matt Hale over his future, with Southampton viewing the attacking midfielder as one of the academy’s leading prospects. The incoming director of football is a known admirer of Doyle, having scored 12 goals and registered eight assists in 21 games last season — the highest goals and assist rates per 90 minutes of any midfielder in Premier League 2 — with scouts domestically and from abroad noting his potential. Within the academy, Doyle began cultivating a reputation for his rarefied ability to take — and score — free kicks with his left and right foot.
