Matt Rempe was in the middle of the action again on Monday, but this time he may face some punishment from the league.
Rempe delivered an elbow to Jonas Siegenthaler’s jaw late in the second period, knocking the Devils defenseman from the game and earning an elbowing major and game misconduct. Devils forward Kurtis MacDermid, who had challenged Rempe to a fight in the first period, tried to get through the linesmen to fight Rempe, but the two were separated — and Rempe gave a wave to MacDermid as both were ushered off the Madison Square Garden ice.
Rempe is assessed a 5 minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct.

The big 21-year-old Rangers forward has been a sensation since he made his NHL debut less than a month ago, with four fights and two ejections already — his first time being tossed from a game was also against the Devils, back on Feb. 22, when he delivered a hit that caught Nathan Bastian up high. Rempe was ejected but not suspended for that play.
He likely won’t avoid a suspension this time, given he stuck his elbow out as he attempted to hit Siegenthaler and caught the defenseman flush. Rempe had just won an offensive-zone draw and set a screen that allowed Erik Gustafsson’s wrist shot to get past Devils goalie Kaapo Kahkonen for a 2-0 Rangers lead. New York would go on to a 3-0 victory.
