Newcastle confirm Lewis Hall signing on permanent deal from Chelsea

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Lewis Hall from Chelsea on a permanent deal.

Newcastle say Hall has signed a “long-term” contract with the club, having joined initially on loan from Chelsea last summer. That deal contained an obligation to buy the 19-year-old for around £28million ($35.9m) if certain conditions were met during the season.

“I am extremely proud to be able to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United,” Hall said. “The fans, the manager and his staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club have made me feel so welcome that I want to repay the faith they’ve shown in me.

“When you pull on the black and white shirt, there is no feeling like it and playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me being a Toon fan.

“I gained a lot of experience last season, and with the squad we have, we’ll be looking to push on even further this season. I can’t wait to get started.”

Hall endured a testing start to his Newcastle career, making only eight Premier League appearances — with only one from the start — from August until mid-March. However, he became a more prominent first-team player in the last two months of last season, featuring in all of their final 10 league games and starting the last five.

In total, Hall featured 22 times for Newcastle in his debut season, scoring twice. The left-back had made 11 appearances for Chelsea during the 2022-23 season before joining Newcastle on loan.

“Lewis was a very good addition to our squad last season and we have been delighted with his progress and his contribution to the team,” head coach Eddie Howe added.

“I’m very pleased to continue working with him. As well as being a talented player, he has a great attitude towards the game and to his own development and I’m excited for this next part of his journey in a Newcastle United shirt.”

Hall becomes Newcastle’s third summer signing, following the arrivals of defender Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer from Bournemouth and goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest. In terms of outgoings, winger Yankuba Minteh has joined Brighton & Hove Albion and academy graduate Elliot Anderson has moved to Forest.
