Manchester City complete Omar Marmoush signing from Eintracht Frankfurt

Manchester City have completed the signing of Omar Marmoush from German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

City have paid their Bundesliga counterparts a fee in the region of €70million (£59m) plus bonuses.

The Egypt international has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad Stadium through to June 2029.

He becomes City’s third January signing following the arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Marmoush, who will wear the number seven shirt for City, said he was joining “one of the best teams in the world”.

He added: “With Pep (Guardiola), his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to become better. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here.

“And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies. City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I am joining a winning environment and winning culture. I want to learn from the staff and my teammates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team.”

Lethal on the break, runs behind and a passing option: What Omar Marmoush brings to Manchester City

The Athletic reported on January 16 that City had reached a verbal agreement with Frankfurt for the transfer of Marmoush, who had scored the second-most goals in the Bundesliga this season behind Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Marmoush, 25, joined Frankfurt from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023 and scored 37 goals in 67 appearances for the club. He has provided 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions this season.

City have been short of options in attack following Julian Alvarez’s summer transfer to Atletico Madrid.

Last week Erling Haaland committed his long-term future to the club by signing a nine-and-a-half-year contract to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.

City are also considering whether to continue their recruitment by signing a centre-midfielder to strengthen the area in the absence of Rodri, who suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the campaign.

A loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, who was on City’s books between 2017 and 2019 before joining Aston Villa, is one of several options being considered by the Premier League champions.

City return to action against Chelsea on Saturday having suffered a third Champions League defeat of the campaign away to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
