Jessica Chastain Lists Historic Manhattan Apartment for $7.45 Million

Jessica Chastain is ready to bid farewell to her Manhattan co-op apartment of nearly a decade. Priced at $7.45 million, the unit is located in a prewar building which was once home to legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, who penned the music for West Side Story during his residence there, per the Wall Street Journal.

Moving on from the four-bedroom pad will likely be bittersweet for Chastain, who bought the home for $5.1 million in 2015 from Adam Guettel, one of her favorite composers. Chastain discussed her sentimental ties to Guettel’s 1999 record, Myths and Hymns, when AD toured the space back in 2017.

“As soon as I found out [the seller] was him, I felt like it was meant to be,” Chastain told AD. The roughly 3,200-square-foot space also sits across the street from a restaurant that the Zero Dark Thirty star frequented as a Juilliard student in the early 2000s.

Chastain and her husband, Moncler executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, enlisted the help of AD100 firm Carrier and Company to design the home. Ralph Lauren furniture and wall coverings are heavily featured throughout the unit, which is located in an 1885-built structure—one of the city’s first luxury apartment buildings, according to the WSJ. Still intact period details include a bay window with Tiffany Studio leaded glass transoms, restored mahogany paneling, elaborate millwork, crown moldings, and oak parquet floors.

The residence boasts five wood-burning fireplaces (“I told our realtor I didn’t even want to see anything without fireplaces,” Chastain said), one of which was uncovered during renovations in the primary bedroom. A copper bathtub near the door to the suite’s bathroom was inspired by the in-bedroom bathtubs at London’s Dean Street Townhouse. A mirrored wall of closets and a four-poster canopy bed by Ralph Lauren round out the main bedroom.

Chastain bought an Upper West Side brownstone in 2019 for $8.9 million. Per the WSJ, the Molly’s Game star is selling in favor of more space for her family. Chastain and Passi de Preposulo share two children.
