Georgia RB Trevor Etienne arrested, charged with DUI, reckless driving, 2 other misdemeanors

ATHENS, Ga. — Trevor Etienne, the running back who transferred from Florida to Georgia after last season, was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of DUI, reckless driving and two other misdemeanors.

Etienne was booked into Athens-Clarke County jail at 4:35 a.m. and bonded out less than an hour later, according to online jail records.

The four charges as listed on the jail website:

  • DUI/alcohol/less safe.
  • Reckless driving.
  • Failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road.
  • Affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield.

No other details were immediately known as of late Sunday morning.

Georgia policy typically calls for a one-game suspension for DUI arrests, and can be longer if the team or athletic department decides. Georgia’s season opens against Clemson in Atlanta on Aug. 31.

Georgia’s football program had a rash of traffic and speeding-related incidents last year, which came into focus after the crash that killed player Devin Willock and team staffer Chandler LeCroy. This is the first known arrest since last summer.

Etienne was Florida’s second-leading rusher as a sophomore last year. He transferred to Georgia in December, with the hope of being the veteran presence at the top of a young backfield. Georgia is two weeks into spring practice.

A request for comment made to the university was not immediately responded to.
