Esteban Ocon’s rough Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend continued in final practice on Saturday as a suspected issue with his power unit brought him to a halt on his installation lap.
Ocon’s car ground to a halt between Turn 17 and Turn 18 just 15 minutes into the session after appearing to lose power, sparking a red flag. Ocon reported on the radio that he could not make it back to the pits.
It’s a further setback for the Alpine driver, who suffered an issue with the MGU-H on his power unit in first practice on Friday, limiting him to only three laps in the session. Alpine replaced the entire power unit ahead of FP2, where Ocon completed 24 laps without any issues.
But this latest setback means Ocon will be on the back foot heading into qualifying, particularly around a track like Baku, where confidence is so important.
