It’s that time of year again; Spotify Wrapped has arrived, and with it, collective anxiety, jubilation, embarrassment – basically, the full spectrum of human emotion.
The streaming platform’s annual summary list has become essential to the run-up to Christmas.
I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but in the UK, once the Celebrations are back on shelves, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” tops streaming, John Lewis’ advert has played out on TV, and we’ve all started sharing our Spotify Wrapped, Santa is well on his way to town.
Obviously, our team had to get in on the action, revealing our deepest darkest secrets; Harry Styles, Lana Del Rey, Pop Smoke, Dua Lipa, tendai, Lolyle Carner; the list goes on!
Below, Team Highsnobiety on the good, bad, and cringe-y of their 2022 Spotify “Wrapped.”

Long live Pop Smoke! Listening to his music keeps his memory alive. It’s bittersweet knowing that his career was cut short just as it was about to take off. I mourn for all the music and memories he could have made, he was making serious waves in the drill scene. He’s an angel in the sky and the soundtrack to my life all 2022 and beyond.

I went through an intense Lana Del Rey phase this year with about 10 songs of hers on a constant rotation, and this one came out on top. I have a really distinct memory of listening to this with my sisters while driving down PCH in Malibu and being really happy. Ultimately, we should acknowledge that Lana Del Rey is a genius.

If I’m being honest I didn’t really listen to much of FKA Twigs before this album. I think Twig’s nod to astrology is what enticed me, and the cover is so cool. I think I played the song so much between February and March 2022 because I was at a crossroads in my life with big life decisions, and Meta Angel references Twig’s desire for a guiding force to help her grow.
Ride The Dragon was also my second most-played song. I love finding an album that sounds so different from anything else out there, and you just rinse it on repeat. One of the best albums to come out of 2022.

Okay before I even say anything, just know it was not intentional. I like Harry Styles as much as the next person, but I definitely didn’t expect one of his songs to be my most listened to — until I realized that I never skip ‘As It Was’ because it’s always very upbeat and just feels happy (even though the lyrics are kind of sad). I guess I’m a Harry Stan, after all.

I genuinely wonder if I’ll ever grow out of my angsty glow-up listening habits from a decade ago….Top song out of my 25,862 listens was Dua Lipa Pretty Please, but honestly, Lykki Li and NORAH JONES were a close second and third. So there’s that. I’ve been exposed.

Spending a combined 3,000+ minutes listening to Billy Joel and Loyle Carner this year makes me feel like we should be mates by now, yet they still don’t have a clue who I am. Shame really, because it could make for quite the three-way friendship.

My top 3 artists were Mitski, Alex G, and Big Thief. Really outstanding year for the sad indie kids.

It’s a what? A BOP.

To be honest, I had no idea what to expect this year after Aaryan Shah snatched the top spot last year with a whopping 548 plays of one song. Fortunately, this year’s is significantly less depressing.
I only discovered tendai back in March when I was deep in one of my UK hip-hop holes, and clearly, his music was an instant hit. “Lately,” still wracked up a pretty significant play count with 262. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Aaryan Shah still took second, fourth, fifth, ninth, and thirteenth place. Sad bois forever, I guess?
