The Washington Commanders hired Jesse Madden as an offensive quality control coach, the team announced Tuesday.
Madden is the grandson of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Madden, who coached the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings. He became even more famous for his broadcasting career, video games and Miller Lite commercials.
Jesse Madden joined the Wolverines as a quarterback and appeared in one game during his freshman season. He switched to defensive back after that season and won the 2023-24 national championship with the Wolverines.
This is his first NFL coaching position after graduating from the University of Michigan.
Madden’s hiring is one of two moves the Commanders announced Tuesday.
The team also hired Brian Schneider as assistant special teams coordinator.
Schneider has spent the last 17 years as a coach in the NFL and most recently served as the special teams coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and 2023. He previously worked with Commanders coach Dan Quinn when the two were members of the Seattle Seahawks staff for three seasons.
