Schaefer is a seasoned professional with over 25 years in the cosmetic packaging industry and heads U.S. sales and operations for the TNT Group, a leading supplier of premium primary and secondary packaging solutions.
He says it is an honor to serve in his new position, and that his presidency “will focus on key initiatives designed to drive growth and engagement within CIBS.” His goals include expanding membership, attracting younger professionals, and hosting diverse events, including a Brazilian-themed luncheon on February 26th, a German Beerhall Party on April 2nd, and a Kentucky Derby-themed Ladies Day on May 2nd.
Additional objectives in 2025, include:
Creating Meaningful Networking Opportunities: Networking has always been Schaefer’s greatest passion in the industry. He says, “It’s not just about exchanging business cards—it’s about building genuine, meaningful relationships. I firmly believe that CIBS provides a unique platform for all of us to invest in each other’s success. By nurturing these connections, we’re not just building our businesses; we’re building lasting friendships.”
Growing Membership: A “return to CIBS” campaign allows previous members who did not renew their membership during Covid to return without any penalties or waiting periods. We are in full swing, planning and organizing the upcoming events in February, April, and May. The organization is also working on attracting younger professionals to ensure CIBS’ future.
Adding Exciting Events: CIBS will also host vibrant events throughout the year to engage and inspire members. Schaefer says, “From reintroducing educational speakers at our luncheons to hosting a German Beerhall Party this spring, I am committed to creating fun and memorable experiences that appeal to all generations of packaging professionals. We’re especially excited for our Kentucky Derby-themed Ladies Day—an event you won’t want to miss!
He says CIBS is also working on recruiting exciting speakers for their luncheons “to make the events even more meaningful by adding a learning experience to the networking opportunities.”
Reintroducing a Holiday Event: “Looking ahead to the 2025 Holiday Season, Schaefer says they’re exploring new ideas for a more casual event—possibly a themed, mid-week Happy Hour—to bring members together to close the year in celebration.
Getting the Word Out: While CIBS continues to communicate through traditional channels, email, and website, Schaefer says, “Our Social Media Chair, Kay Brown, has done an amazing job providing relevant content on Instagram and Linkedin. We significantly grew our audience there, and it has become a major form of communication.” Schaefer will also create a new WhatsApp group “to communicate informally.”
February 26: Brazilian-Themed Luncheon
CIBS’ first gathering of 2025 will be a Brazilian-Themed Luncheon at Fogo de Chão on February 26th. Schaefer is looking to encourage a crowd: “Please join us and bring your colleagues, customers, friends, and suppliers—it promises to be a great event!”
