HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, which traditionally features NFL teams, will instead cover UNC’s football program under coach Bill Belichick this offseason, a source briefed on the negotiations but not authorized to speak publicly confirmed Friday.
Belichick, a legendary coach who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, agreed in December to take over the Tar Heels’ program as coach, filling a vacancy left by Mack Brown, the winningest coach in the school’s history. Brown was fired just before the end of the 2024 regular season.
Belichick, 72, signed a three-year guaranteed contract with UNC in January — the deal gives him a $1.75 million bonus for winning a national championship on top of his $10 million annual salary.
“Hard Knocks” followed the New York Giants last offseason for the first time in the team’s history. The Patriots have never been featured on the show, meaning it will be Belichick’s first time as a key figure.
This will be updated.
