2023 MLB futures odds: Astros emerge as World Series favorite after slew of LDS upsets

This MLB postseason has been a wild ride so far. The Wild Card Series came and went in a flash with four two-game sweeps and then the Division Series featured three upsets with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles combining to win one postseason game after the trio each won 100 games or more in the regular season. None of the four teams in the League Championship Series won more than 90 games in the regular season.

After all that chaos, the Houston Astros have emerged as the betting favorite to win the World Series on BetMGM. The Philadelphia Phillies are just behind Houston in the odds.

2023 World Series odds

Odds are from BetMGM and will update as games conclude.

The 84-win Diamondbacks are 5-0 this postseason, but remain the longshot to win the World Series. The Texas Rangers come in third in the odds, but are much closer to the top than Arizona.

American League pennant odds

The Astros are favored in the all-Texas ALCS. Yordan Alvarez enters the series as the favorite to be ALCS MVP with +650 odds. Kyle Tucker (+750), Jose Altuve (+900) and Alex Bregman (+1200) are next in those odds.

This is the first time the two Texas teams have met in the postseason. The Astros won the head-to-head series 9-4 in the regular season.

The Rangers have never won a World Series while Houston has been a stalwart in the playoffs in recent years. Houston has made it to the last seven ALCS, which seems unimaginable in the modern era with more teams making the playoffs. Houston is 4-2 in the previous six.

National League pennant odds

The Phillies are a sizable favorite in the NLCS against the Diamondbacks. Bryce Harper (three home runs, 1.381 OPS in six playoff games) has been on fire this postseason and isn’t the only one on Philadelphia. Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos also have posted an OPS north of 1.400 in the playoffs.

Harper is the favorite to win NLCS MVP at +400. Corbin Carroll (+800), Turner (+850) and Castellanos (+850) are also near the top of the odds list.
